2nd official update

(1st was in the 'Woop woop!' post)

Ok, well the last time I wrote a full update was actually a week ago (but Im sure you ve gathered via photos from entries since what Ive been up to!)

Thursday night last week, Carolyn and I went to Monopol to see ciudad en celo. Friday was my leaving meal - complete with presents, cake, happy birthday song and saxophone serenade..... Saturday I met up briefly with Alejandro in the day then went to the beach (alcaravaneras) with Alex, Carolyn and Angela (Sasha left early on sat morn, sob, sob). In the eve, having been fed jacket potato with beans and cheese at Alex's, I went out in Vegueta with Sumia, Fabrice and Octavio (Trini's friends - Trini was in Tenerife).

Sunday I met up with mum and dad in the day (theyd arrived here during the night). We went for lunch, a quick stroll along the promenade, hung out at the pool in the hotel and in the evening went for a nice meal in the fish restaurant at the very end of las canteras. Monday morn I went round to Alexs briefly to say bye - no one lives in their flat anymore! Then went to el Corte Ingles (and yest morn actually) to finish buying pressies for the english department and Trini. Big box of posh chocs, a collage of photos from fridays meal and a card for the english teachers, and for Trini in the end I got the french translation of 'a year in the merde', a photo frame containing a pic of us, a collage of photos from La Palma, and a compilation CD of french songs Id downloaded. Took quite a while to sort all that out!

Monday night we ate in the cheap(er) restaurant at Hotel Reina Isabel, and yesterday during the day we went round Vegueta, saw Columbus' house and in the eve we went to another fave restaurant of ours along las canteras. Afterwards I met up with Carolyn, Trini, Sumia, Fabrice and Octavio to go to a bar or 2 around Monopol, Veracruz and another bar nextdoor, and Las Brujas in Tafira. After that we dropped Trini, Fabrice and Carolyn off home, and the 3 of us went to Johnnie Walker at the port.

There you go, up to date!

Few more photos of leaving meal....

Look at the size of that smile!
Just about to open my presents from the English girls, before leaving for the restaurant.
The staff from school gave me my presents at the meal - earrings, 2 necklaces, a ring and a watch!
English girls got me a handbag, a belt, some earrings and a bracelet.
(Below) Some of us (most of us) from the meal, afterwards, before heading to Johnnie Walker next door for some boogying!

Since Thursday afternoon Ive been to the cinema to see an Argentinian film called ciudad en celo, been to the beach briefly twice, and cleaned the flat ready for last night! So not much really apart from last night. Tonight am off out with a few of Trini's friends even though Trini herself will not be there (she's in Tenerife for the weekend)

Apparently no return to VALVVF Obernai for me

Just received an email from Mona, head of Reception at VALVVF Obernai. Turns out that actually, they already have all the staff they need and won't be offering me summer work on reception after all. Thanks.

They apologise for the short notice, wish me every luck in finding alternative work in France, and hope I will pop by and visit them soon - or at least keep in touch via email. Do they have ANY idea how hard it is to find work in France as a foreign student? It certainly would have been useful to know this sooner! If I'd previously been under the impression they may not be able to offer me any kind of work in any shape or form, I obviously would have looked further afield. Cutting it fine now.

Grrrrrrr

I get the impression from the tone of the email that Mona was keen for me to come back, but obviously Jacques (Manager) gets the final say. So now what am I going to do all summer?

La Palma

Me and Trini having lunch shortly after arriving on the first day (Fri 11th May). There was another strike that day, hence why we weren't in school!

This was the view from our room

On the friday night, searching for a nice place to eat (we settled for the place behind Trini)

Somewhere at soem point on the saturday!

France photos on old livejournal

The above is a very small photo of the first staff meal I went to - back in October.

If you click on the link to my old livejournal (link is on the right) you can access photos of France 2006 (Valvvf Obernai) by clicking on user info along the top menu panel (of my old livejournal not this blog) and then scrolling down to pictures, and clicking on the 'over 20 public' link........

Can't be bothered to add them on here. They're also in my image station account.

Thankyou note

This photo is of my 2a class (Year 9). It was taken the last week of term before Christmas. One of the girls was leaving to move to Madrid so we had a bit of a party in the gym (instead of their weekly English lesson with me!)
Today I got a lovely thankyou note from a pupil in one of my 1 ESO classes (Year 8). It was in Spanish but I've translated it below:

For Vicci,

Thankyou for coming to this school to give us English classes. Although we haven't been able to have many classes all together, because of the behaviour of some children, you are a very good teacher. I hope that ou have a good trip back to England, and that we see you. again soon. lots of love, Nereida, 1c

How cute! I was touched - she was one of very few nice kids in that class!

Also, today I got presents from the other teachers in the department - earrings and a necklace with a traditional indigenous canary symbol on them - plan to wear them to the meal tomorrw night.

Right just about to post some more photos of other classes!

And she's done it!

The default pic is up! (It's actually really easy if you look in the right place!) On a roll! Plan to keep on adding bits to my page over the next few days.....

Woop woop!

Yes! The link's worked! Slowly getting the hang of this blogspotter business.......

Clearly, have far too much time on my hands!

Ok so here's a proper update on what I've been up to since La Palma.

Erm actually did quite a few lessons last week - I even taught 2 year 8 classes how to play Netball LOL! Can you believe it?!? Me, a PE teacher? Hehe - got them throwing, catching and pivoting in small groups (yes, even the boys) and then they practised defending etc before lining up at the hoops to shoot! Was quite good fun - even got a little game going, although it didnt very closely resemble netball but never mind. They didnt seem to like the British, girly, no-contact, pivot-central rules though but I expected as much.

Thursday night went out with Alejandro and his friend to a bar or 2. Ooh, how could I forget - we ate in Tony Roma's first - yum! Fri night met up with Trini and Greg and Mal for a drink, some food and a bar. Saturday went to Puerto Rico on my tod and sunday was my birthday!

Didnt do a lot in the day, but went out for a few drinks and food in the eve with Trini, Alex, Sasha, Carolyn and Jaime.

Monday night, met up with Carolyn's choir friends in McCarthys (had been to the Charleston beforehand with Carolyn). Yesterday I learnt to surf! 4 hours and I can just about stand up (and absolutely every muscle in my body aches badly!) On monday at school I did a French lesson on music - downloaded 10 different french songs (all different styles) and played them extracts which they had to describe - was good fun!

Right, I'm off, as Carolyn's coming over in a bit - we're watching 'Some like it hot'.

Links section?

Just tried to add a links section to my blog page (with a link to my old livejournal page) but it doesnt seem t have worked.....

Seriously

Promise will get some proper photos up here soon (i.e. ones that were taken by other people, include other people and dont feature me posing or pulling stupid faces!)

Hmmmm......still messing! Will get there eventually. This is fun!
